A collection of inadvertent observations …

Sometimes we observe the world and notice the host of small detail that surrounds us. Sometimes, if we allow it, we let the detail in and it can become a story, a moment in some other life or perhaps a memory we wished we held ourselves.

This collection of encounters with people and places from real and imagined worlds touches on the mundane, the imagined, the observed and the arcane. Inspired by postcard stories and flash fiction, these pieces aim to give brief moments of reading.

Touching on aspects of our known and unknown world, they are a collection of stories brought together through the collaboration of Valerie Bird, author of ‘Incident on the Line’ and ‘A Retrospective’, and Innes Richens, a new writer making his debut here. Each author has extended a real experience to imagine what may have happened, in the hope that the reader is never sure where the truth forms part of the overall fabric of the moment.
